flow : on tour 2018/19 a film fest for the love of water is a European tour of film events in six cities and four countries. We present an international selection of environmental and outdoor films on free rivers and freshwater life, feature the Wild & Scenic Film Festival and combine film screenings and expert discussions.

Impressions from Helsinki

flow : on tour 2018/19

flow : on tour 2018/19 is a European tour to six cities: Helsinki, Szczecin, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Munich and Amsterdam. The tour’s central topics are

protection of the remaining wild and free rivers in Europe
river restoration through dam removal

The tour is presented by flow : europe and Living Rivers Foundation in cooperation with various partners. Patagonia is our partner for the entire tour and also acts as the tour’s main sponsor. Our partnersfor the individual stops of the tour: We teamed up with the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation in Helsinki, Save the Rivers Coalition in Poland. WWF Germany and Planungsbüro Koenzen – Wasser und Landschaft are our partners in Germany, and we are preparing an event in Amsterdam together with the World Fish Migration Foundation / Dam Removal Europe.

The growing US Wild and Scenic Rivers Network as a model for permanent legal protection of free rivers is therefore a central topic of our events. Shane Anderson’s film Run Wild, Run Free. is a magnificent portray of 50 years of Wild and Scenic Rivers. This is why we put up river film fest: We are advocating the establishment of a similar policy for Europe, and want to foster exchange through sharing rivers stories in particular. This is also why we are featuring WILD & SCENIC FILM FESTIVAL in a partnership with the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) in California: www.wildandscenicfilmfestival.org

In light of the global boom of hydropower, what might Europe, what might other parts of the world learn from the US when it comes to protecting free-flowing rivers and removing dams?
